General Description
ALUMEN
Common Potash Alum
The clinical application of this remedy points to its bowel symptoms, both in obstinate constipation and in haemorrhage from bowels in typhoid. Paralytic weakness of muscles. Tendency to induration and hardening of tissues. Adapted to old people with bronchial catarrhs. Dryness and constriction. Mental paresis and dysphagia.
Head.--Burning pain as of lead weight on top, better pressure. Vertigo with weakness in stomach. Alopecia.
Throat.--Relaxed throat. Red swollen mucosa. Tickling cough. Enlarged indurated tonsils. Burning down oesophagus. Aphonia. Constriction.
Heart.--Palpitation from lying on right side.
Rectum.--Severe constipation. No desire for stool. Ineffectual urging. Inability to expel stool. Marble-like stool. Itching and smarting after stool. Haemorrhoids. Bowel haemorrhage.
Female.--Induration of cervix and mammary glands. Chronic yellow discharge. Gonorrhoea with urethral lumps. Vaginal aphthae. Watery menses.
Respiratory.--Haemoptysis, weak chest, difficult mucus expectoration. Ropy morning expectoration in old people. Asthma.
Skin.--Ulcers with indurated base. Indurated glands, epithelioma, varicose bleeding veins. Alopecia. Scrotal eczema.
Extremities.--Weakness of muscles especially arms and legs. Constricted feeling around limbs.
Modalities.--Worse cold except headache relieved by cold.
Dose.--First to thirtieth potency. High potencies effective. Powdered alum may arrest asthma attack.
